Librateric DAB-LS Blog: Laurylmidopropyl Betaine

Librateric DAB-LS is a 35% active, very low salt (<0.5%), high pH, self-preserving Laurylmidopropyl Betaine. DAB-LS is manufactured from stripped, hardened, and distilled coconut fatty acid. The coconut fatty acid is manufactured from certified sustainable Non-GMO Palm Kernel Oil and has a salt level less than 10% of standard Betaine. DAB-LS has a Natural index* of 1, a Natural Content* of 100% (*to ISO 16128), and is available as RSPO Mass Balance (MB) grade in addition to NDPE.

Standard Betaine is commonly used as a co-surfactant with SLES in cosmetic formulations at a proportion of around 3-8%.  However, thanks to the very low salt content of Librateric DAB-LS can be increased to 15-20% to become the primary surfactant and replace SLES. This gives formulators more flexibility, allowing a more concentrated detergent and more of the benefits of low salt in products.

A high salt content of 5-7%, is a by-product of the betaine manufacturing process. However, thanks to Libra’s technology and advanced production methods, the product is purer and contains fewer contaminants. This includes preventing any iron contamination and reducing residual reactants like amidoamine, MCA, and DMAPA, which are known skin irritants and allergens.
